I don't live in a civil war area so finding military items from that era is pretty exciting for me.

This rough belt plate was dug in am outhouse. This was the only decent item recovered in the outhouse. It was really a 5+ foot penalty hole.

Still pretty juiced. I never thought I would find one and I never imagined it to come in a privy.

Good save from the hole. Wonder what can be done with it to help preserve it from further destruction?
 
The chemical reactions taking place in a privy are brutal on metal. I hope to clean it well enough to display it.

Nice Find my Man , As for Condition it is what it is.

Dug a plate last week that is bent in half with a hole in the middle , We take what we can get.

Congratulations on your 1st plate , & sounds like you worked had for it.

If it were mine I'd look in to some kind of Clear Coat ..Spray it & Display it.

Heard the colonials had a hard time keeping there pants up, since they used all there buckles on there shoes. Nice find by the way.
 
A MAN NAMED FARMER PLAYING IN A OUTHOUSE TODAY , DIGGING FOR RELICS THRU THE DIRT AND THE CLAY. 5 FT DOWN HE FOUND THIS FIND , A US BELT PLATE LOSSED FROM SOMEONES BEHIND . CONGRATS ON YOUR FIND , GONNA MAKE A HECK OF A CONVERSATION PEICE.
