We see a lot of amazing discoveries on T-net, some of which are practically magazine-worthy. This is not one of those discoveries :tongue3:. But for me, it was one of my best hunts, and it only lasted an hour.

Found my first ever silver quarter, a 1958 Washie. Also found a smashed earring that looks gold but has the word SILVER stamped on it. I did some acid tests and it passed for 10K gold, so maybe it's gold-plated silver. To top off my hunt, found a pocket spill of clad.

Happy hunting, all!

YSometimes we think that the people who make great finds have found it all. Only to find out, that silver quarter you just found, has eluded them.

The really odd part of my story is I found this silver quarter at a school that wasn't built until the "clad era". Maybe old dirt was trucked in one time, I'm not sure :dontknow: To add to the strangeness, the quarter rang up around 60 VDI on my AT Pro. I think that was because there was a piece of foil not far from it. And the gold-plated silver earring rang up at 40.

Gotta love finding silver quarters! , congrats

Congratulations on your first silver quarter. That must have been a thrill. All firsts are special. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats on your silver quarter! It's something you'll always remember. That earring is also pretty neat.

There WAS some people on this site and others that had to prove they were the best detectorists. So they started finding awesome finds they bought to keep ahead of the rest. One got banned on here recently and a few faded into the sunset.

When you have to try and prove something you take all the fun out of the hobby for yourself and others. NOBODY should be on here to be better than anyone else. Sure some have better spots than others have and that is to be expected. Some do a lot of research to find those spots also and some stumble upon unhunted turf and water.

I enjoy seeing one silver coin or ring along with the posts that seem to be out of the realm of possibility. AS LONG AS they are real finds. Some people are good, others are better, some spots are good, others are better, some machines are better than others. Same with a lot of hobbies. I have a 23' cabin cruiser. Should I not take it out because the lake is full of 65' motor yachts? No. I do what I like with what I can afford and enjoy my past time.

Nobody should be ashamed because they have a lower end machine, do not have a fantastic area to hunt or don't have all the time others have to put into the hobby. If you are, you are not detecting for the right reasons. You need to evaluate why you enjoy the hobby, enjoy your finds and share with others and gain knowledge from others. That is why I am here. Sure I have a hot spot this year and I have them other years. However, if my posts EVER make people feel their one silver dime isn't worth posting, I am not doing this site any favors.

I am not better than any one else. AND there are others that outhunt me like OBN. I encourage them and they me. Same with your quarter. I am glad you posted and I hope you find many more. Never be intimidated by others posts. It is not worth it. Enjoy what you can do, when you can with what you have and love life.

That'd make me smile! Congratz!

Congrats on your first silver quarter. Its a great find, and most of us hear on the forum who have been hunting for quite a while have also found our first silver quarter and remember how excited we were with ours. Enjoy your moment - the world is your oyster !

Congratualtions on the silver! :occasion14:

Probably the odd reading is why it was still there waiting for you. I've had some strange readings on some good stuff. I still get bottle cap readings on clad quarters, but then i hunt very trashy ground.
Sometimes we dig those "odd" signals and come up with a prize!

The dirt could have been trucked in or something went on there before. I found an IH at a school that recently was built and the preveious school that stood there was from 1960. That was a head scratcher also. :what:
You sometimes would like to ask the coin how it got there. :D
