New member and new to detecting. I am on Long Island. Have a whites v3i and have been hitting local spots hard for the past couple of weeks. Mostly clad but did find a 1826 large cent last week. I found the button and buckle shown in the pics today searching local areas. Not found together. Penny shown for size reference only. These areas are in an old whaling town that also saw some heavy use during the revolutionary war. The buckle seems to be a cast material and seems to be hollow. Not sure what either item is made of. No writing or any other distinguishing marks on either item. Any help as to age or any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a tombac button from the latter part of the 18th century

What Mangum said...lol..great find! Welcome to T-Net and happy hunting...ddf

Yes, late 18th C but I'm pretty sure the tombac's were still in manufacture in the very early 19th as well.
