First Gold found! **Updated**

So, I'm a newbie to metal detecting with about 10 hours under my belt. Went to a local elementary school today and got a hit in a wide area with my Ace 250 that I was expecting to be more junk. I was surprised to find a gold chain and was so excited that I began tugging at it and broke it in the process. I managed to dig up the rest of it and was thrilled to find that it was gold stamped 9999. It was spread out over several inches and was only about 1 inch down. I really wish I owned a jewelery scale right now. I'll probably bring it to a jeweler this week to weigh it and verify it's purity. Thanks for looking.

**Update**
I took this to a jeweler today and verified that the chain and pendant are both 24K. Total weight is 5.2 grams. WOOHOO!

So, I was just wondering since the clasp is stamped 9999, does it mean that the pendant is 9999 as well or could it be a different grade? I'm no jewelery expert, so I'm not sure what the norm is. Thanks!

Great find while your at the jeweler have them repair the chain shouldn't cost more then 20.00 if that coin pendant is 9999 that's a few hundred bucks of gold .Good hunting Jim

Awesome job, that sure is a nice way to get yourself hooked into metal detecting!!! I found my 1st gold (an 18k man's wedding ring) on my 2nd hunt ever with my Ace 250!!!

WTG !! Now comes the hard part. Not expecting to find a similar treasure each time you venture out!!! That Necklace is, if 24K, very valuable. The ACE250 is a great machine. have a great time with this hobby. HHHH

WOW! I bet some middle eastern kid had the stuffin' beat out of him when he went home without that neckchain. You bet the pendant AND the chain are worth HUNDREDS, seeing that they are both almost pure gold.

This is a very beautiful find. I would have the chain professionally repaired and keep it (or give it to my wife probably).
