First good find of 2019

I did a few short hunts in the beginning of January and just cleaned up some of the finds I thought were garbage. I was really wrong on this button! lol. The first pic is the button I found, it's enhanced to show details. The back is completely gone. The second photo is from a website and I think it's an exact match to the button I found.

It's not. It's a dome. Just looks that way from the digital microscope and the head on photograph.

It's a staff officers button. That style was used during the civil war and afterwards. There are subtle differences in design that can help date it, but the best way is through the back mark, which you don't have unfortunately.
