Garrett AT Pro, 8.5"x11" DD coil, Super Sniper coil, Garrett Ace 250, 10" x 14" DD EXcelerator coil, Pro Pinpointer
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Well i went out yesterday morning for a few hours. I started out with the Super Sniper coil on. Went to a real trashy spot but didn't find anything good, a ball bearing that i thought was a small round ball. Then within 5 mins. my battery level went from full to dead:BangHead:, so i had to walk back to the car and drive to the 7/11 to get some. After about 20 mins. i was back with fresh batteries. Since i still had the small coil on and i was by the car i started by the fence and walked along it all the way up the side of the property. The small coil lets me get up under the fence without any interference but i only managed a Zincoln. So when i got up to the thicket i put my 8.5" x 11" DD coil on and worked my way around the property trying to hit spots that had produced good finds in the past. Found the pocket knife with "Scout" on it up by where i found my thimble last year, worked my way back and found the Nice button and the canvas fastener near where the Seated Half was. Then got another pocket knife walking out. Anybody good with pocket knives? How old do you think they are, and is "Scout" the maker or could that be the persons name, or was he a boy scout? The button is the first that i have found with the con-vexed shape and it looks like it had a cool design on it at one time. Thanks for looking and HH!!!

Check the knife. It could hide some silver coins. IMG_1414.webp

Good early button!

Maybe a lesson there:thumbsup: I carry & so does Dad a spare set of batteries, whether we are close to empty or not. It just saves that wasted time, & we are trying to keep that to the minium.

Nice Button.

Nice button. Not often you find that style of button with the shank still intact. Yesterday was a slow day for the 3 of us. I only ended up finding a small round ball and a tiny flat button, smaller than a half dime. Nothing worthy of posting. lol Like we were saying though, just that field alone is so huge...just imagine what we are missing. When I found the tiny flat button, I thought to myself, wonder how many half dimes or cut silver is in this field that we are missing! Congrats on some old finds to start out the year.

 alot of beer toasting smiley face comments , not sure what that means :dontknow: anyway must mean something favorable . I have found that disc style up here in Jersey where ever I get one , old Spanish or early US silver seems to show up , hope that happens to you too

The scout I believe is a name plate for the owner not a brand name.. I collect pocket knives and to me thay look like probaly a case or and old timer type models.. Probably just hardware store pocket knives.. Anytime you find knives along a fence row or in the vicinity of a field they are usaully knives that were used by people for everyday use.. Most people who live in areas like this carry pocket knives and they frequently get left on fence posts or in fields or around barns.. Cool to find but don't believe the are very rare... Hope this helps..

Yep. We have found 3 spanish silver on the property, but no US silver that pre-dates 1830's.

How about that , three Spanish in the area , I thought so , just something about that type of button makes a site even better. It happened so often up here in my mill sites , I even made an observation note in my log book . Strange but that's the way it goes down , :dontknow: many more guy's .

:skullflag: dawg

Wish we found the same amount of spanish coins to the amount of buttons we found there. lol

I hear you , even 1 silver to 30 buttons would be a highly improved ratio . IMHO quality thread and seamstress skills seemed non existent back in the colonies :icon_scratch:

Agreed! You wonder how they kept their clothes on half the time.
