Now that the first half of the year is in the bag - I wanted to share what my hit rate has been
In total I have searched $14,037 in coins (not counting pocket change) which amounts to 215,776 pieces.
Cents: $851.50: 1,105 wheats (about 650 or so from a large wheat dump about 6wks ago - prior post), 2 IH, 5 Canadian George VI, 34 Canadian QE2 before 1970.
hit rate of 1.30%
Nickels: $954.00: 5 buffaloes, 1938(2x), 1939D (prior post), 6 war nickels, 23 Canadian
hit rate of 0.09%
Dimes: $10,685.00: 91 silver FDRs (50 from a solid silver roll earlier in year - prior post), 6 Mercury, 1 Barber (1910D - prior post), 1 Canadian George VI (1945), 1 1987S impaired proof, and 51 Canadian, 16 British 5 pence coins
hit rate of 0.093%. Took searching $1,335 at the beginning of the year to get my first silver dime of 2019 - hit rate since then was 0.105%. 2 or 3 of the FDR silvers were found in coinstar machines. Without the luck of finding the solid silver roll, my hit rate here would have been really low IMO.
Quarters: $840: nothing but 2 Canadian quarters. Looking for W mint.
Halves: $629.50: 3 JFK 90%, 14 JFK 40%, 3 Franklin, 1 Walker, 3 impaired proof, 50 NIFC after 2002 (threw most of those back)
hit rate on silver: 1.67%
hit rate on NIFC: 3.97%
Large dollars: $77.00: 1 1978S impaired proof (prior post), 1 Peace $ that had been cut open (lower weight - prior post)
I don't search boxes and I toss back any roll without opening that I think has solid 2018 or 2019 coins and they are not included in these totals.
I am sharing to give others a sense of what my success rate has been in my area. Curious to know what others hit rate is.
