Earlier today dad and i hit the coal camp for the first time this year. We found a few interesting things as usual, although we got rained out after a few hours. Below is a list of the items we found, pics will be up tomorrow as the finds are currently soaking. The coal camp was active from the early 30's to the mid 30's, so everything there has been underground for 75-80 years now.
Luxury Tax Token, Alabama State Tax Commission - it has a 1 on it, although i don't know if it is 1c or $1. It is aluminum (very light), but has been corroded and rusted pretty bad. Any advice on how to remove this? Is it rare/valuable?
Ever Ready safety razor - stainless steel, the top where the razor goes opens on a hinge. Inside it reads 'Ever Ready, Bklyn, N.Y., U.S.A., Patent Applied For'. The handle unscrews from the head and is six-sided. It is still pretty shiny but has a little corrosion on it. It wasn't even underground, I kicked the leaves to clear the signal area and it was in the middle of them.
A bottle that, after some research, turned out to be a blended whiskey bottle from 'The Wilken Family' whiskey company. It has a portrait of a man with glasses on it, who i am presuming is Henry E. Wilken Sr. since his signature wraps around the bottom of the bottle. Still has the cap but is missing the paper labels.
A key, that, again, after some research, seems to be to a 1932 Ford Model B. They key is in fair shape as I can still make out the word 'HURD' on the front of it, thus the basis of my research.
Flattened piece of metal resembling a thimble, green in color. It has the 'Good House Keeping Bureau' stamp of approval on one side. The other side is fairly rusted, but i can make out something like 'Layman's. Distributed by World's Products Co. Spencer, Ind. Made in USA.' I have no clue what it is, does it ring a bell to anyone?
