Oh man has it been a while.... 10 years ago I found arrowheads all the time. Since then I've had two kids and moved across time zones 5 different times. Living in the St Louis area now and finally found some time to get out this morning. Since I don't actually know of any sites finding one became task #1. I decided to go kayak a sizable creek hoping to figure creek hunting out a little bit. I think in this area it's a productive way to find points but I've never done much creek hunting. I put in and paddled 1/2 mile or so upstream. Good news and the bad both was that I found clear signs of another hunter having been there a day or two before me. Eventually I found a beautiful beat up red polka-dot blade. I was stoked. I don't know if it's a random find or from a site - I do believe the person hunting ahead of me scoured that area pretty good. Another 1/2 mile or so and I find a legitimate site. Total found 6 pieces on that site including a very nice 3 1/2" drill. First nice point I've found at a new site in a LONG time. Top 5 drills for me, all time. I'm guessing it's a middle to late archaic but any thoughts on that are appreciated.
Glad I found the points but more excited to have found a good site and picked up some good information on how this creek hunting works. Stoked to see where the next couple of months go as I learn more about it.
Thanks for looking
