First of my 2010 season hunts with Lowbatts & D Dub

I wonder if the medicinal lubricant Lowbatts found was used or dispensed with one of my finds?

Not pictured is the 1925 wheatie that I found about 10 inches down, near a stream.
I tossed it in my wheatie bag before grabbing the camera.

When composing the pictures, I thought I should put a coin in there for scale.
So I reach into my pocket and pull out a 1943 S Nickel!
Must have got it in change at the gas station when I got coffee and a donut.

The tube shaped thing is about 9 3/8 inches long.
The small end is wrapped with what looks like thin leather strapping.
The large end has what might be solder or brazing residue on it.
Any ideas what it might be?
Some initial thoughts were knife sheath, tent stake, black powder horn, oil can spout, procto - never mind that one.

Too bad there were no jars full of coins under the mason jar lids.

Even though I didn't get any silver it was great to get out and dig again.
Unfortunately it also became obvious to me how out of shape I am - after just 4 hours my shoulders and elbows were in a lot of pain and the hike got me out of breath. Time to start workin out I guess!

Glad you could get out

I think you should count that silver Jeff as part of the
hunt. . . you were on your way to the hunt, right? ::)

Your "what's-it" might be the remains of a funnel spout.
The leather that's been wrapped around would keep it snug
(ohh, that sounds bad ::))

I told you that site was evil. Or did I?

We should have dug that cannon out of the stream. Eh, it'll be there when we get back. Nothing like a creek walk in early March to test the saddle soap on your boots. Mine failed.

Note to self, wet steel toed boots conduct cold inward and take a toll on the signal path.

Did you guys make it to the NE corner of the property?

As I was leaving, you guys went around that hill on the one side and I went over it on the other. You spooked about 8 deer that came crashing through the sticks and found their exit blocked by me. Several stood there, within a few feet of me with that "Lowbatts in the headlights" look on their faces. Me too.

Note to self, don't leave spear in car.

Mayo, that long skinny tube thing looks like a mini elephant shlong. Or, a marine feather duster worm. Maybe a feather duster shlong?

Nice hunt. I'm jealous of everyone who got out today, what a beautiful afternoon. I just left work and am getting ready for class...

Interesting finds, Mayo!

I was watching TV the other day and saw ya. I don't think you're out of shape, just tired from all that skiing & snowboarding. ;D

I wonder what that long thing is...

Great find on the war nickel. You guys that find all this silver in your change - amazing!

Great getting out with you and Tim the other day, Mayo!

How did I miss the canon in the stream?

Isn't that thing one of those things the males wear in the south African tribes... ;D ;D ;D

Eh, you thought it a good stepping point from one side to the other. Now other folks might have mistaken it for a piece of 4" ID drain pipe, but since my reality is what I make of it, it'll be a cannon when I go back up there next time...
