Hey all this may be better suited here. Was just wondering if anyone had insight into what this exactly is? Looks to be double struck. Got it off craigs, would this have possibly been used as american currency back then? 20161101_212321.webp20161101_212321.webp20161101_212647.webp

It look weird, like it may be a fake or a token/contemporary counterfeit. I hope it is real.

And yes, they were used as American currency. A lot of people came from Ireland to America in the 1700's. My town was settled by Irish in the 1700's. Also, my first copper was an Irish 1723 Hibernia.

It's a contemporary counterfeit double struck 1766 Halfpenny.
