Hi all,

Been coin hunting heavy for most of the past year and a half or so and off and on before that, but just recently came across this site.

I had been tracking my totals all year so I figured I'd share. Here are my totals for 2006 to date.
The coins listed below were all found either by searching rolls, local casinos, loose change, or buying loose coins at banks.

From the totals you can tell I spent most of time searching pennies and nickels.

Pennies

7 - Indian head pennies (Oldest/Best = 1902)
1606 - Total Wheaties (of which 176 where pre-1941 and 1 was a war penny (1943), Oldest = 1909, Best = 1933-D)
64 - Pre-1960 Canadian pennies (Oldest/Best = 1932)
1 - 1972 Lincoln Penny DDO (though not the commonly listed one)
1 - 1998 Wide AM Lincoln Penny
2 - 2000 Wide AM Lincoln Penn

Nickels
--------
3 - V Nickels (Oldest/Best = 1883 without cents)
19 - Buffalo Nickels (about half of which the date was readable, Oldest = 1915, Best = 1916-S)
2486 - Pre-1960 Jefferson Nickels (of which 66 were War nickels, found every nickel except 1950-D)
2 - Pre-1960 Canadian nickels (Oldest/Best = 1940)
5 - Proof Jefferson nickels (19XX-S after 1970)

Dimes
-----
1 - Mercury Dime (Oldest/Best = 1944)
23 - Pre-1965 Roosevelt Dimes (Oldest = 1946, Best = all roughly equal)
1 - 1996-W Roosevelt Dime
4 - Silver Canadian Dimes (Oldest/Best = 1950)

Quarters
--------
8 - Pre-1965 Washington Quarters (Oldest = 1935, Best = 1935 or 1953)

Halves
------
1 - 90% Kennedy Half Dollar (Oldest/Best = 1964-D)
12 - 40% Kennedy Half Dollars (Oldest/Best = all roughly equal)
1 - 1974-D Kennedy Half Dollar DDO

Dollars
------
290 - Eisenhower Dollars (Oldest/Best = all roughly equal)
1 - 1981-D Susan B Anthony Dollar (mint set only issue)

Other
-----
Numerous foreign coins not worth mentioning in detail.

1 - 1950A $10 Federal Reserve Note

Other misc stats for 2006

Best Penny box for indian head pennies = 2 indian head pennies
Best Penny box for wheat pennies = 69 wheat pennies (also had boxes of 63 and 56)
Best Penny roll for wheat pennies = 8 wheat pennies
Best Nickel box for pre-1960 nickels = 42 pre-1960 nickels
Best Nickel box for war nickels = 4 war nickels
Best Nickel box for Buffalo nickels = 3 buffalo nickels
Best Dime box for silver dimes = 5 silver dimes
Best Quarter box for silver quarters = 1 silver quarter
Best Half Dollar box for silver halves = yet to buy a full box, best partial box is 1 - 40% kennedy and 1 - 90% kennedy. (buying first full box on Friday)

How much did you search of each denomination to get those finds? I've got a spreadsheet made up that keeps track of all kinds of stats and will be posting my finds at the end of the year.

Special collector coins struck at the (then) new West Point mint. Issued only in mine sets so any found in circulation have been busted out.

In regards to how much of each denomination was searched, I can't give an exact figure since I only tracked the results for part of the year and didn't keep track of how many coins I searched
a) when I was at the local casinos or searching loose change
b) before late April
but based upon averages from rolls bought at the bank that I have been tracking since April I can give a close approximations for some.

Pennies
-------
I average around 12 wheat pennies per $25, so approximately 334500 pennies searched.

Nickels
-------
I average around 27 pre-1960 nickels per $100, so approximately 184000 nickels searched.

Dimes
-----
My numbers for dimes are skewed, but somewhere between 110000 and 200000 dimes searched.

Quarters
--------
My numbers for quarters are skewed as well, but somewhere between 75000 and 120000 quarters searched.

Half dollars
------------
Slightly under 3000 half dollars were searched.


These are only approximations based on the data I did save. Next year the data should be more complete as my spreadsheet got more complete as the year went on.
