Hi all,

The weather is supposed to change here this week (much colder) so I decided to take advantage of a pretty nice day yesterday..I was going to call on a yard on my street that was for sale by owner, and on my way there I noticed another house for sale that was empty. I called and told the RE lady I lived up the street and wanted to know if I could check the yard with my detector..she said that's fine "as long as I don't go in the house" which I thought was funny :D So without wasting one more minute I went home, grabbed my Prizm and off I went.

I started hunting around 2 pm and was done at 4:45 pm. I dug up 137 coins by the time I began losing daylight (87 Lincoln Memorials, 6 wheat pennies (1934-P, 1944-D, 1955-D, 1956-D, 1957-D and 1958-D), 2 nickels, 24 dimes, 17 clad quarters and a '62 silver quarter..I was amazed I didn't find one silver dime among the 24 (the yards in my neighborhood have good silver potential since the homes were built in the 1950's), but all I really cared about was being able to hunt a fresh yard in early January, right down the street from my house

I also found a 10K gold filled locket in another yard last week that I had hunted to death since last summer. As the old saying goes, "no place is ever totally hunted out". I was amazed to find anything at all there since I had searched it soooo many times! I even found another wheat near the sidewalk in the front of the house (I must have dug 50 wheats at that one yard since I began searching it :o)

Here's the pics..the ground in the shade was tough to get through (the first few inches were frosty) but the thicker areas of grass prevented the top layer of dirt from freezing, so I was able to get to lots of targets.

I also found 2 dog tags and 2 square objects in the same hole, which I believe are hem weights.

Hope everyone (who's not in the deep freeze) finds a little treasure this weekend!

Thanks, yeah it opened pretty easily, but the hinge broke (apparently the only part of the locket made from a poor quality metal). All that was in there was an obliterated round piece of paper that was no doubt a photo.

Great 09 finds before the ground freezes.

Thanks..one yard can have tons of targets while the one next door has hardly any..it's a crapshoot as to which yard is the most fun!

Thanks EVERYONE for the replies

GREAT FINDS NATE MAY 2009 BE YOUR BEST YEAR.

Crikey! - sounds like the tooth fairy was having a drunken party in the backyard with that many coins scattered about - Nice one!

Nice hunt, congrats! HH, Mike

You have more guitars than I have TV's and coils put together! Well, almost... ;D

Glad you got out, Nat! I'd love some turf hunting right about now, but it looks like I've been banished to the woods until spring. 137 coins? It looks like you were doing just as much digging as you were swinging on this hunt!

That silver George is in nice shape, and that's a nice locket! Call me goofy, but there's something I really find reassuring about digging old dog tags... Congrats!!
