Was ready to throw the ole metal detector in the river today after recovering 17 shotgun caps & another dozen .22 brass. But after cleaning this beauty up, i discovered i had found my first rim fire, brass!! [emoji2] 20180125_201939.webp

Nice find. These can be dated. You should be able to find something online.

That's a cool find!!Thanks for sharing it

Also welcome to tnet

Thank you, coins. I can't seem to find a reliable date for this one. I know it's United states cartridge Co. (est.1869) The opening is smashed, so i cant get a measurement. Aprox 1/2 in. Long. Its most definitely from a pistol, not a rifle. With an indented "US"....but STILL can't seem to run down a "date window!"

Very Nice.

Glade you’re here!

Nice finds DigalotaJunk (especially the rim fire). Thanks for sharing...

maybe a .32 caliber rimfire

Yep, that is my best guess. About 20 min ago, i finally tracked down a thread from about 4 yrs ago where Cannonball Guy said that those style were used from 1880s onward...PRETTY COOL! Thanks for all the comments! 👍

way cool, congrats

Last post on this one. Bought a caliper today. It's a .35

Never a .35. Did you measure the inside or outside? Inside is the caliber. probably .32 short or long. What is the length? Would be anywhere from 1890's-1920's

All i had was the outside at the base. So, i took.85 off that and it hit right at.35. If i HAD been able to measure the inside, u could probably minus off another 2.5, and yes, that would put it RIGHT in the ballpark of a .32. I know u know your stuff! I watched u & cannonball guy get into it over one of these, before! Ha ha. It is a short. .56" long.

Anything that can be researched and dated is a cool find in my world. Head stamped shotgun brass and bullet brass are all good finds to me. Monetary value plays very little significance in my finds. Unless I find something I can retire on that is. Never throw your detector in the river unless it was designed for water use ; )

Lol Kurius! Yeah, Gettin rich metal detecting has never even entered my mind. I really DO hate the modern shotgun and .22 brass' though! Dug WAY too many of each. If i was a stripper I'd hate the quarters after a while, I'd want to be gettin $5s!! Who am i kiddin...no one would give me a quarter!! 😂
