First Silver Coin With ACE 250, Rosie and Mercury Said "Get a Hair Cut!"
So my dad asked me to go hunting on Sunday and I told him to pick a place without a sandbox because my son was coming with. He’s 2.5 years old and LOVES the playground and especially the sandbox. He set us up at a local older park and said we should swing around by the ball field first and then head towards the playground. When I got there we found out my step mom wanted to take my son and little sister to the pool. They ended up taking almost an hour to get to the park and pick up the kids, all the while I was watching my son play around a tree and also watching my dad search under ALL of the shady trees in sight. He was doing a lot of digging but hadn’t found anything yet.
So we gear up after the kids left and headed towards the ball field. I was kind of walking down a blacktop path that the Tram drives down (maybe you know the park now?) and started to walk off towards the ball field that my dad was half way to already, and I got a loud bell tone. I wasn’t really even trying to find anything yet but hey it was a dime. I pinpointed it with the ACE 250 and then the Tram starts barreling right for me. I’m basically right on the edge of this narrow path so I look over at my dad and thought about just leaving it, but I stuck it out as the tram passed within an arm’s reach of me. Some girl on the tram said, “there’s that metal detector I was talking about”. She probably saw my dad when we were waiting around. I go to pinpoint it and thought I had it but it must have been some iron or something because when I dug the plug there was nothing in the flap or the hole… but hey, there was something an inch from the edge of the plug where my SERATED digging tool just cut through! I pulled up the turf with my hand and a SILVER DIME fell out from only ONE INCH below the surface!
You can see just how close to the path I was:
Picking it up carefully I couldn't believe my eyes when I recognized the "ONE DIME" typeface on the back side. BARBER!!! I yelled over to my dad, "Hey! GET OVER HERE RIGHT NOW!!" After my dad saw it he must have said, "No F'ing way!" about 15 times. I immediately wrapped it up in some paper towel I had in my bag and put it in my pill box. I couldn't even see the mint mark or date!! I was itchin' to wash it off but from what I saw it looked to be in great condition so I didn't want to scratch it.
Here's a few LARGE images of the dime after just washing it off by rinsing it under tap water. I didn't rub or use any cleaners. There is still some dirt, but I wanted to post pics first before and ask what I should do with it (proper cleaning). I don't want to sell it, but I would like to keep it in the best shape possible in case I do sell it down the road. Let me know what you think

I've posted in the Cleaning and Preservation forum about how to clean it based on its grade if anyone would like to comment:

I just wanted to reiterate that the hour wait was definitely worth it! My first signal dug and it's a beautiful barber dime an inch from the top.
So three targets later I dig this... can you find the ring?
Amazing that is didn't get run over! Look at those ruts.
Well that's about as Nitro as it gets. The ring has "14GE ESPO" on the inside... 14K Gold Electroplate by the ESPO company... old, but nothing special.
Well, I have to sleep so I'm going to cut this short... heh. I'm picking up my new Minelab Explorer SE Pro in 2 days! Can't wait to play hooky on Thursday and try it out, LOL!
I'll leave you with a picture of me showing off my clump of dirt Nitro (thought it was a tarnished silver ring with some diamonds)..
