Just got back almost an hour ago from some cold and windy night MD'ing. Started out with a few quick clad finds and I eventually ran into a wheat, and then a second. Having found the wheats, I began to sweep in a more concentrated manner (Better overlap) in what was a pretty quiet area........almost 3 hours and I only had about 10 coins......and this is where I am glad that I dig all clad..........a dime signal at the first bar on the depth meter.......and what comes out?......this mercury dime at no more than one inch of depth. WTF?.........that is a first. Also ran into my second canadian penny find, it was sitting on top of the ground. It was one hell of a cold night until I found this merc.........things felt a little warmer after that. I still have a seriously heavy BIG SILVER monkey on my back.......he's gotta come off.

hey congratulations! ;)

its amazing what coins can do. ive found deep deep clad, and shallow shiny goodies. different soil types definitely have something to do with it along with human activity. i was walking along an area where some sidewalk was being replaced and an indian head was just laying there right on top of the ground. (a couple years ago) check out any decent readings and youll be rewarded. if you can get a chance if you ever see construction activity in your area i would ask the workers to check the excavated spoils piles. could be just about anything in there!

Very nice finds! But night mding? How the heck do you dtct @ night?

Scots......headband LED light and some balls in this part of town.

I seems like the merc dime is everyone's first silver. It was mine as well. Night hunt around here and every third person seeing you would call the police. Not that that's bad, just annoying. Congrats. Monty

Well done Ricardo!! A merc was my first silver. Still looking for larger!!

Well done Ricardo! Night mding in the cold and wind :o

Thanks for the comments guys. Night detecting in the cold is a matter of having the right gear on...........last night it was like 28 degrees out with winds gusting to 10-15mph here in the city. I was out MD'ing from 7:30 to 10:30pm without a coat! That's right........without a coat. I had on 2 sets of thermals........legs and upperbody.....3 sweat pants.........and a layer of 4 seaters. Also had a thick hat, thick pair of gloves and a nice thick scarf. I was out there like if I was walking around in my house. Also figured out how to tie my headband LED light around my wrist so that the light points directly over the screen of the 250. No need for a backlight with that little rig of sorts. Now I need to go out there and buy like a set of ski goggles, 'cause my eyes still tear here and there in those temps. That merc is #1 for 2007. Two months in 2006 found me 5 others.

Nice mercury! Motor on!
