Found a three banded .925 silver ring with my AT Pro, only second time out with it. Found at an deserted high school in town. Only other finds were some clad, but only searched a small area due to time.

Just wanted to add to the ATP's gold VDI numbers. I found my first gold ring a few weeks ago. It was an 11g mens 10kp ring. It came at a consistant 67-68 at about 4-6" with gb around 88.

I now dig anything repeatable 46-90. This should include all coins, gold, and silver.

Very nice assortment of rings. You obviously know your stuff. Being from Murfreesboro, are you acquainted with Larry Hicklen?

Thanks, my left arm feels naked if it's not holding my at pro. I've been friends with Larry for about 12 years now. He's my go to guy when I have questions. Talk about someone that knows his stuff, I feel lucky to live in the same town as him.

Anyone with an AT Pro needs to read this thread. I have not been digging those numbers where you guys have been pulling gold. I'll be returning to some old hunting grounds for sure. Thanks all for your input! :)

If it helps anyone. My first gold was a 14k 8 gram. Solid 68 at 4 inches and never bounced.

100% agreed. I also have not been digging the 60s. Seems late 60s could be gold in my area, my GB is in the 80s. I will also be hitting old hunting grounds this summer.

But remember... the one thing we all agree on is that good hits (silver, coinage, gold) seems to be a solid, consistent hit, regardless of its VDI#, so it shouldn't fluctuate TOO much. Being an electronics guy I'd logically :laughing7: think that is because the transmitted signal is reflected in multiple directions (think: radar) by can slaw and foil due to their non-uniform shapes and sizes before the receiving coil finds the return phase and analyzes it.

Just remember that bracklets, chains, etc probably won't be a consistant read due to their shape. Something to think about. I need to test this with the fiancee's jewelery but seems about right. Depending on the thickness, a small gold chain could fall into the foil range and jump a bit

Wish we could nail down that variance. If its jumping one or two numbers I'll be digging those from now on.

And thanks cti4sw for the following, Garrett should use this analogy in their owners manual :

That's definitely a sterling mark and the construction of the chain looks very good quality. Did it have a lobster claw clasp or just a spring ring? Lobster claws will indicate good quality as well. Maybe its just the shape of the chain that causes it to ring so low??? Its easy to see if its plated (which I doubt), just take a file and scratch into one of the links. You will see the copper underneath if it is. Any jeweler can test it for you as well.....
