First thimble and oldest coin yet.

I found my first thimble and an 1840s large cent at the park. The Large Cent was in pretty rough shape but I could make out 184 on the date with the last digit being unreadable. I am not sure what the bracket thing is made out of. It is a silver metal when I scratch it, is oxidized but not rusty or magnetic, and it is heavy like brass.

Congrat's on the LC and the open top thimble, it's in great shape.

The item that is in question could be made out of zinc
Not sure what it is, but to test it from aluminum is to take a file bring to a bare metal.
Put vinegar on the that spot.
If it foams up then it's zinc, if not then it's cast aluminum

Not sure about there being a fire. The farm shows up on a 1859 map but not on a 1886 map. The first settlers arrived in the area in the 1830s so a fire could have occurred here. I don't see much melted glass though.

Its way too heavy to be aluminum. I tried the vinegar test and there was no reaction so I am wondering if it's pewter.
