Ace 250 and Minelab Explorer II
To all,
I was able to hit a SoCal beach yesterday for about an hour (in the midst of playing with my kids on the beach) with my Explorer II. I found $1.63 in clad, a token, many pulltabs and some other junk. I found most of the coins in the shallow water and some at a volleyball court.
Question for those of you who are more accomplished: What is considered the "lane" as I see some of you write about? I have read most of Golden Olde's stuff but am confused as to the most productive spots in the shallow water. For instance, the area where the waves typically crash is usually filled with rocks and pebbles as the sand has been moved away. How far, generally speaking, out or in from this point is considered the best spot(s)? Anyone willing to offer me some tips? If not, I understand, and will learn through the school of trial and error. However, if you want to offer advice, please PM me.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm from Florida & I think our beaches are calmer than yours. Still hope this helps. Right offshore where the surf breaks nobody stands. You just push through it the best you can. Then there is a trough about waist deep. Lots of people stand / swim / wade here and drop coins. Then there is a sandbar about kneep deep. People play here too. Sometimes the pattern repeats with a second trough and a second sandbar. But only expert swimmers or divers get out this far.

Greetings Turtleman,Nice machine, just don't go too far out in the water.
And from what I've heard don't tip the coil higher than the head of the
detector after being in the water as it can run up the rod and cause trouble.
Don't know if your beaches are the same, but the surf will deposit items
of similar size and weight in a line, sometimes a couple of feet up the
slope or more. One guy used to call it the "spit zone",saying the waves
spit the coins/rings up there.Have found the lines before and have
found rings /coins at about the same distance up the beach.A zig-zag
pattern is best to find it after a storm, then follow the line down the
beach, and when you find something ,circle the area around there a ways.
Good luck. You WILL find the goodies with that machine.HH Joe
