Well I finally got my viper trident on Tuesday around 1230 pm. I quickly assembled it read the instructions once and was at the beach by 230 pm. I quickly found out what they meant when they said this is a motion only machine. Took me a few minutes but adjusted to it ok and was able to fairly pin point targets by using the x method. This machine is heavy it says it weighs 4 and a half pounds and it feels like it too. I am a fairly big guy. 6'1 245 lbs but it took a little getting use to before I was able to ignore the weight. This is a iron detecting machine. I found a bunch of nails with it. I tried various settings but always seemed to find the iron. Granted the beach was fairly crowded and the tide was in so I only hunted the beach area where the fire pits are. Still I managed to find a quarter, spoon, knife and awning peg with it. Over all for just two hours on the machine I was satisfied with the results. It will take me a while to learn this machine but not disappointed I bought it yet.
Today I did much better than yesterday found several quarters and a few dimes and penny's with it. I left the discrimination as low as it could go and dug everything tide was coming in again so after 2hours left the ocean side of the beach and went to Mission Bay park. I was able to try the detector in the water there and managed to find a few nails. Didn't stay long in the water though had no shoes and the shells were rough on the feet. I tried it at the sandy volleyball court and found one of the quarters there. A few minutes later the arm cuff just came apart on me. I guess the bolt and nut holding it together were not on too tight and the nut fell off. Of course I wasn't able to find it so that ended my hunt for today. I have all ready replaced the bolt and nut and will try and get back out there tomorrow if my back allows. HH all Ted

Sounds like a good first couple of hunts with your metal detector! :)

Try getting you a harness to support the unit and take the weight off of your back and arm. I put one on mine and it makes a big difference. ;D

I'd consider the eating utensils to be a good day....i only have 4 spoons, 3 with silver plate (at one time)

I use the viper trident it does take a while to get used to, but overall it is the best i have used for beach hunting
It really finds all of the metal In the fire pits where they burn pallets all of those nails are just left in the sand to rot
find one of the nails move it over to a patch of saand with no metal bits on it then sweep over the nail while turning the disc knob on it until the nail only makes a static like noise now you only dig on the clear tones or the chatter tones keep the other knob turned up almost 3/4 of the way
Good Hunting
