After a 17year hiatus from detecting I decided to get back into it this year. I did some research and ordered a new detector, the Equinox 600. It arrived Monday but by the time I get home from work its dark. I went to two different house sites this weekend and hunted a total of about 6 hours, one built in 1908 and the other in the 1850's, which I hear had been used as a hospital to treat wounded soldiers in the civil war! Saturday I hit the 1908 house and came out with 5 wheaties, two dated 1911, a metal motorcycle and a few modern coins. I always considered it a decent day finding wheat pennies. Sunday I went to the 1850's cabin, hoping to find some civil war era relics. Haven't come up with anything from that era but I did dig my first gold ring! 14K white and rose gold, about 4 inches down under a tree and below three overlapping roots! I almost gave up on it but the consistent 15 VDI reading kept me persistent and it paid off! I don't think the ring is very old because the font of the 14k stampings look modern to me. Also found a drilled 1947 cinco centavos under the same tree and an old razor in the woods of all places. I cant wait to get back out next weekend now!
