I took a substitute teaching job yesterday which reminded me of why I retired from teaching. On the way home, I stopped by a municipal sports field where folks play soccer and lacrosse. I searched a small area (about 4' x 8') for a half hour waiting for a local micro-brewery to open. Apparently, the folks attending the games drink a lot of things in aluminum cans and bottles because I found the mother lode of tabs and can slaw.

I got a nice hit around 25 (on EQ-600) and dug it to reveal a nice wheat penny. While it sure won't pay for the detector, it was a thrill to find. I suspect it will take me months to search that field well.

Congratulations first of many I'm sure.

How was the micro-brew? Beer and detecting a winning combination!

Congrats on your first wheat penny.

@PullTabPete ... the microbrew was, as usual, good. This afternoon's brewery is a little place in Apex, NC called BruePrint. I've become a fan of pale ales and they have a real nice one called Pale Brue Eyes (all the names include the word "Brue"). My wife enjoys their Scotch ale, EdinBrue.

You are quite right, a cold one after a good detecting trip is a good idea.

Congratualtions on the first Wheat cent, may your coil find many more! :occasion14:

nice find what was the year

Congratulations and thanks for sharing! I recently scored my first wheat too - it's a wonderful thrill, isn't it?

@GoldBoy ... I haven't been able to read the date yet. Have it soaking and will go at it with an ultrasonic toothbrush to see if I can clean it up a bit.

Silver's next! :icon_thumright:

Yep, where there is wheat,, you might find silver.
Congratulations

I love stories like this. Like hearing a young person try to explain to you what it's like to be in love.

When you pull an old coin, that mix of history and treasure and potential takes you over, and it's a wonderful thing. Congrats to you mate! :occasion14:
