its not much to look at for the moment. I was down at a beach that had heavy battle during WWII here on Guam and the tide was way out making it so I could finally get to some boulders I had wanted to search around. I figured I would search behind them thinking they would prevent the tide from taking stuff from behind them. I found this old bullet casing behind them as well as a piece of shrapnel ( at least thats what one of the old timers on the beach said it was ) I know the bullet casing is made of brass, you can't see it that well in the photos but its got a nice green to it. I found it about 8 inches down.

I was wondering if anyone knew how I could clean it without damaging it. there is little bits of sand and coral that seem to be cemented to it. I would like to get it off that way I can see if there are any markings on it where the primer was. any ideas on cleaning it would be nice. the photos aren't that clear but you can make out the coral and sand really well on it

Great find, I have no idea how to clean it, but I know Guam and Diego Garcia are great places to find that stuff. I was at both places in 2001-2003 while I was in the Army, just touched soil and had to leave though.

Looks like the casing is 30-06. Probably fired from a Gi's M1 Garrand.

thats cool to know. I still haven't gotten it cleaned yet. I think thats more to do with lazyness rather than not knowing how I should. will post picks once it is cleaned up.

I would not know how to clean it. My only guess and it is just a guess is electrolysis. I'm just not sure if that would take off the sand and coral.

Great find. I just love WWII finds. If those relics could only speak.

Looks like a .06 casing.
Tumble it - should clean it nice.
I tumble mine in pebbles and sand. Not much value - so don't worry about it.

HH!

It is very interesting the way it is. Clean it and it's just like any other shell case. Monty
