Hi,

I bought the F2 package with the sniper coil and normal 8" (I think) coil on Amazon about 3 months ago. Today was my first try with the sniper coil, but no matter what I did, it would only ring "Foil 18" no matter what I did. Even going over quarters and stuff gave me the same thing. There was also tons of chatter. When I switched back to my normal coil everything was fine so it's obviously an issue with the sniper coil.

So my question is, how do I go about getting it replaced? I assume I need to pay to send it to Fisher and not Amazon? This sucks because it was obviously broken right out of the box :/

I've also had a few issues with my F2 going absolutely berserk a few times where it would just start firing off lots of different numbers and tones no matter what I did, even if I pointed it to the sky. Lately I keep my phone in airplane mode but it still happens though rarely these days. Sometimes even turning it off and back on does nothing. There weren't power lines above in any of the times it happened, and it doesn't do it in the same place every time.

We live in a busier world than even a few years ago. There are many things that broadcast EMI waves besides over head wires.
Electiical Interference Your sniper coil is more sensitive to smaller items and also those fields. All else being equal, the 8 inch coil is not as sensitive or I should say it is Dumber than the lil guy.

Since you bought it off Amazon, you could have gotten it from a dealer that sells through them, or a private party.

Oh No! I hate that happened to you. May just be a shot in the dark but have you tried taking the batteries in and out to reboot? I've read about this in another forum. Have you tried turning it on in a different area of the property just to confirm there is no interference? If none of this works, contact Amazon immediately. Just know that they will have to turn around and notify the actual merchant to contact you which will cause a delay in replacement. If the merchant does not get back with you within a day or 2 you need to contact Amazon. That's a drawback for dealing with a middleman even if offering a cheaper price. Get a refund or charge back but get them to email you confirmation. Then order from Big Boy Hobbies or some of the other highly recommended vendors on this forum. Most dealers match prices, too! Don't give up, you'll be swinging a F2 and digging up goodies in no time. Use the time waiting on arrival in this forum learning everything you can soak up or if you already experienced, maybe you can share knowledge with us.

I don't know what's going on with the 4 in coil, but I believe that I know the cause of your detector going off like crazy: underground power lines. The first (or second) day I had my F2, I took it outside for for a while in my backyard when it suddenly went berserk. I tried almost everything to quiet it down until I finally realized that I had underground cable lines running through the area. As soon as I moved to a spot several yards away, the problem went away entirely. Just recheck that you don't have any obvious sources of EMI near your area, this includes air conditioning units, underground power lines, and even cell phones. It might just solve the issue with the 8in coil.
Happy hunting!

I got my F2 from amazon but the packing slip was from The Metal Detector Store. Do you still have the packing slip by chance? If so give them a call. I got the sniper coil with mine i have never used it, it is still wrapped.

The F2 going nuts for a few seconds is common. Mine does it too often, I thought it was because the coil gets wet from the dew but it will do it anytime with the stock coil.

I also have an f2 and had the same problem with the 4" coil and after a few emails and phone calls, the 4" coil picks up the wire very easily so be sure to wrap it correctly, also as soon as your batteries get below the second dot recharge em or change em, Don't use cheap batteries you get what you pay for and some of the knock off batteries can screw up your machine, so they said. Mine ended up being a battery issue I was trying to get every last electron out of the ones it shipped with and it was causin chatter random vdi numbers tones etc like I was detecting while tight rope walking on a high tension power line. fresh batteries fixed it, so I use the slightly weaker ones in my pinpointer and always keep a xtra fresh set with me on a hunt. Good luck hope it helps and remember 5 year warranty covers the coil also. Email fisher labs they are very helpful.

You ever figure out what was going on with it man?

No I never did. I tried everything listed here. I was actually planning to call Fisher today to see about getting it swapped out.

It happened to me the first day I took it out in front of my house. It turned out to be some power lines that ran high beside ma house and some cables that ran under in my front yard. Thought I had a defective unit! But hey we all learn new stuff everyday eh?

Hey same thing happened to me. I didn't knew anything about metal detecting the day I took it outside my front yard for the first time. Guess what, it were the power lines that cross from above. I walked down the street a few yards away and viola! Prblem solved!

This thing is crazy! I was going to post a different message and it came that other one that it basically says the same thing! The day I posted the message the first attempt at posting it didn't came out and had to rewrite the post. So now I was going to post something else and came the original message that I tried to post! LOL!!

You got that F2 cranked up too high
:)

Yea... I am with CRAZY4COINS I think you might have underground power lines too. OR... you don't have the 4" sniper coil exactly connected correctly. You might have it a little cock-eyed when you screw on the screw cap connector. At my house on the right side of the driveway it goes all RANdom-BEEPS-chRIps-numBER crazy (no matter if I put it to sensitivity 1). on the left side of the driveway it's just fine.

I call the right side the Bermuda Triangle side of the yard. :violent1:
