Fisher F5 Recall & found out about PP button not functioning correctly on F70 to

AS OF 8-25-2008

[size=24pt]Hea Folks i called Fisher Labs this morning to get
some info. on the F5 and found out that FISHER
has a RECALL on the F5, that the PIN POINTING
BUTTON does not Function correctly.

Also talked to Robert @ American detectors too
and he has sent back 5 Fisher F70's that are
having Pin Point Button problems too.

Totally untrue-no recall-no pinpoint issues.

Do you have a name of who you talked to at Fisher?
I also talked to Robert @ American Detectors and he say he said no such thing regarding the F70's because it is untrue......
No pinpoint problems reported on either model......

Mike

Almost forgot to mention,

That I work for FTP and would think I would have heard somthing about a recall or pinpoint problems if it were actually true......

Hope this helps,

Mike

Since I just bought a F5,I just called the repair department. No such recall in existence!

Re: Fisher F5 Recall & found out about PP button not functioning correctly on F70 to

Very interesting . . . Would they post recall info. on their site? So this would be an every F5 model recall, not just certain serial #'s? This can't be good for business if true. ??? Ian

Just ordered stock of F2, F5 ,F75 no mentions of recalls called my rep at Fisher never heard of it either.
And in case you want to know the F5 is Assume.

You know this F series from Fisher has been one of the most....ah, interesting models ever made.

Is this a case of "where there's smoke there's fire" or something else?

Reports of recalls that never happened?

Man this is extremely weird!

I know guys who love the F75 so much I think they sleep with it. Others think it's the machine from hell!

What's up? :tard:

Badger - I'm with you on this F series thing. I haven't bought one yet, but I've been looking and want to. I want so badly to believe that they are great machines, I really do. I have a Fisher 1266x that kicks butt. I have a lot of respect for Fisher based on experience with the older models, and I have really been thinking that maybe people are just being impatient with the new machines - giving them a bad rap. However, the more I read, the more I think it can't ALL be user error. I'm not sure what the heck is going on. As you said, it's a very polarized fan base - I've heard people cursing the day they ever bought the detector and others that have used nothing else since they purchased the F75. There are HORROR stories about warranty repairs being passed along. Rumor? Fact? Propoganda from rival detector companies or fanatics? I dunno. I've been detecting for about 13 years and have never seen such a fuss over a detector series. Maybe it's just resistance of the hard core fan base to the transition from heavy duty analog machines to light weight plastic computer machines. I don't know.

Now there may or may not be a recall - WHAT? My letter to Fisher would start like this:

Dear Fisher: We love your history, and we want to love the future of your company. However, currently we are being bombarded with bad reports about your new F series machines. We do not know if these reports are true. We are hearing from our peers that they are of poor build quality and unstable. We are concerned about warranty issues and with the poor economy, we want to spend wisely. PLEASE - respond to these complaints in an open detailed letter of explanation. Reassure us. Understand, we are not unreasonable consumers. We just want to separate fact from fiction and rumor, from propoganda. Please respond to us "would be" customers to help assure us that if we spend money with your company that: 1. Our machine will work, and 2. If it doesn't, you will fix it properly.

Regards - Ian

This is exactly what I've heard from some Civil War Relic hunters I know. They don't contribute here but I email them.

But, even they say the build quality could be better.

My friend who promotes Nautilus machines told me the F75 is the fastest and deepest machine he's ever owned. But all these guys say the same thing--it's not for everyone. There's a learning time and you can't set the machine up wrong.

You Minelab guys here recall the first time you tried the Minelab Explorer? I'm just now learning the Explorer but my first encounter with it was not good. I saw it as a computerized gimmick piece of junk. Now I'm learning it and it's starting to make sense--I may even like it eventually.

I think Ian's post above pretty much sums it all up.

It does have a very fast sweep speed.

Bought it new.Only used it for 15min in an old church yard.Got a small car,a zinc penny and an unfired 30-30 cartridge. The bullet was 5", the penny was 2" and the car was 3",did find a piece of pop can about 8" and an unidentified 1"x1/2" piece of metal at 7".15min wasn't very long, but the F5 id'd everything with numerical and by tone.

Nice.

I got this confused though, I thought we were talking about the F75. You have the F5, right?

I guess I've got the F75 too much on my mind and I've forgotten about the other models :tard:

Re: Fisher F5 Recall & found out about PP button not functioning correctly on F7

What's supposed to be wrong with the F5 pin-pointing ?

I picked up a new F5 last week and have already found two mercury dimes, five wheat pennies a gold ring and a mission era artifact. So far it works great.

A company does NOT issue a recall for a problem unless it is a danger to the user. How could a pinpoint button be a danger? They might send out a memo saying they are having problems with a certain thing but WILL NOT issue a recall for a problem unless it is dangerous. A good example would be all the laptops Sony recalled because the batteries were getting so hot they could cause a fire. I don't know where that info come from but it is total BS.

Re: Fisher F5 Recall & found out about PP button not functioning correctly on F70 to

I have an F-5 and I think it is great. I have had quite good luck with it. I have a Hunting buddy that has a F-75 and we have been comparing if I remember correctly I dont think there has been anything the 75 picked up I couldn't. He will hit a good signal and I will sweep it and I pick it up as well. Granted the 75 is a lot clearer and I think it ID's it more accurately, but thats what the extra couple of hundred dollars is for. Over all I am very happy with the F-5. I would recommend it to anyone asking.

Re: Fisher F5 Recall & found out about PP button not functioning correctly on F7

Ian--I had the same thought on the F series detectors. Sounded good, but too many problems. I got a good deal on a T2 so I went ahead and bought it. Not much difference between the T2 and the F75. I'll tell you. It's just as tough as any detector I've ever used, nothing flimsy about it. And I had a lot of confidence in the Xterra 70 until I started using the T2. It pulled relics out of the ground that I'd hunted hundreds of times. I have had no problems with it, and have used it religiously for the past two months. I've got five other detectors that I really like. But the T2 makes me confident I'll find it if it's there.
