Be careful metal detecting in Vietnam.

One of the tragic legacies of the Viet Nam war, are the unexploded ordinances scattered over Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia. We dropped over 7 million tons of explosives during the war, as compared to around 2 million tons in WWII.

It is estimated that 10 to 15% were duds. Since 1975, more than 40,000 people have been killed by these. The cluster bombs have been taking the highest toll.

I'm guessing metal detecting hobbyists are few and far between in the former war zone.

Right, you nailed it.
This stuff happens weekly and usually doesn't make the news.

Hey Mike,

I'll be moving to Hanoi for a new job next August. Would love to connect with you when I get there if you're open to it. Looks like I'll have to stick to the beaches....
