Just like thumb scrapers many a ol' timers walked by these, which I'm thankful for lol. I'll start with a few, the two together are from the same site. Both have the outer cortex and the one has almost sawteeth on it and would still cut a limb off. I've always called the single one my tiger stripe blade. Never found that same material on any other piece of mine and have no idea what kind it is. Let's see what others have!!!

Braintree hornfels outcrops near Boston, and was one of the preferred lithics for the Jack’s Reef people. Needed to use the light in a certain way to show this blade….

Great examples Charl!!!!

I found this a mile from my house. It’s made of Avon chert from Cedar Creek north of Avon, IL. Avon is just a subtype of Burlington and the closest source of Burlington from here. My mileage calculator shows it’s 163 mi. and a 2 hr 53 min drive to Avon. Blade is 5 7/8”. The rust marks are from plow strikes. Amazing it’s still in one piece.

That’s a huge blade. I bet you were smiling when you found that one

I was out in a field looking for an old house site to detect. Found broken glass and pottery and saw white a good ways away. Thought it was pottery. Way better than pottery!

A couple more under glass, I’m too lazy to pull the table apart but they have fine work down one edge the bottom is really pretty material for this area, I stumbled across a picture of some Texas stuff that looked similar but there may be a closer source… the Texas stuff was called edwardsville maybe?

The site location. It was found on a Hopewell Culture site in Brown County, Illinois. This piece is made from light colored Burlington chert.

Hopewell is all that was recovered from that site, no other time frames? It's rare when you can actually place these in a certain period, which is cool if so.

It wasn’t a personal find. I’m less talented in my locator abilities. I was once really good but since my head injury… I suck at it. It’s a visual perception issue that can’t be fixed. The info that I was provided came from archaeologist David Dean who was asked to come up and look at the site. He was pretty knowledgeable and I believe a great deal of association came from the abundant hopewell mounds too. It, by all means, could be associated with other times too,? I’m not an expert.

Couple more here. The first one I always thgt was for a left hander .
