Flat bullet cartridge?

dug this up today and fellow metel dector said that it looks like a old bullet cartridge possible from a old 45 47 what do u guys think?

That looks like a part of the oil lamp that the wick would go through. The square hole in the side is where the adjuster gripped the wick to move it up and down
