I found this flat button on the Brandywine battlefield, along with a musket ball, broken cutlery and several other buttons. There is definitely something in the middle circle on the front, but I can't make it out. Hoping someone here knows what it is. Thanks in advance for looking.

Josh

Adding a better picture of the front. IMG_0423.webp

Sorry but my old eyes can't make it out. Try wiping a little flour on it and see if any more details show. The flour can be easily removed.

Upon closer inspection Josh, it looks to be an unmarked one-piece flat button. :icon_scratch:
Likely British-made, dating from the 1830 - 60 period.

Thanks Dave! May I ask what attributes point to the 1830-60 date range? Is it the shank attachment points?

Hi Josh,

It might be earlier then 1830 as well, but likely not pre-1800.
Here is a basic guide to dating unmarked buttons by their shanks.
