Found this at an 1800’s farm in PA. Assuming it is a lock mechanism of some sort. Any ideas?

Could have come from anything in that time period... book clasp lock, jewelry box or even a cigar box lock. :laughing7:
Probably had a flip down latch latch portion that locked the box/book closed, similar to this one.

Date wise, I'm thinking late 19thc.
