Hi everybody here some pictures of yesterday's finds, it was a holiday in Belgium and I went to a yearly outdoor fleamarket, finds were poor, until I found this lot; I particulary like the little brooch with the miniature painting, albeit a bit crudely painted. But I'm grateful for finding it all. IMG_20190502_160654538.webpIMG_20190502_161005799.webpIMG_20190502_160746503.webpThe pic with the miniature is is all silver the other pic is plated. I paid 20 euro for all, all from the same seller.

Welcome to tnet from Niagara Falls. Good eye. Nice silver. Congrats

Thanks for the welcome! I'll be posting some of my finds from the past few months aswell, so you guys can get an impression what can be found over here in Europe. Since I was a toddler my parents and especially my beloved grandmother, have been taking me to fleamarkets. Going trough puberty, I wasn't at all interested in 'that old crap', but in my mid 20's the passion of searching and collecting resurfaced and the last 7 years I've been going every weekend during market season. Here in Belgium during spring and summer most villages have a yearly outside fleamarket in the streets of the town, or on a local soccer field, so it might be a litte different of how things go in North America. Garage sales like you know them, have only begun to emerge the last 10 years or so . And I really don't like going to them, it's a total different atmosphere, very competitive and sometimes when lists of participants are available the day before, some type of people even go knocking on doors, waking people up at 4 or 5 in the morning, asking for gold and silver jewelry and watches, even though the sale starts at 9. By the time I get there a lot of sellers are by then really irritated by the rude behaviour of these folks, thus the atmosphere isn't all too welcoming. That's why I stick with car boot sales, that's just my cup of tea.
So now you guys know a little more about me!

Glad you found Tnet. Nice to see stuff from other countries. Welcome.

Welcome to tnet from Connecticut. Those are some great finds. Looking forward to seeing your scores from abroad.

welcome from Germany. T-net is a great place to meet wonderful people. Ya'll have a great weekend! Sláinte!!!!! (Iknow this is not German but I love Ireland)

Beautiful pieces you've found. Welcome! I would have never expected the type of competitiveness, or lengths that some pickers would go to catching that score in your area! Waking people up at 4 am? That's unheard of here in the U.S.A. (wonderful idea, though, joking) I know of a few pickers around my area, but they usually do it around 7 am if the sale starts at 8am. I strongly believe in being first, but I draw the line at 7am, but never knock on doors. :-) I was going to recommend for you to get into watches, but you probably already know about them. A lot of them are definitely very collectible and valuable. You should look for them as well if possible. I would not get discouraged about what everybody else is doing. Your opportunity will come, so you have to be ready with knowledge about them, and other things. Good luck.

It is wonderful to get your perspective and to meet you! I just love continental thrifting because everything is so old and interesting. I think it is absolutely hysterical that you have the same picker problems as us stateside! I’ve learned to go late and take pleasure of what others missed. I can’t think about what I could have missed.

Very nice pieces, congrats! :occasion14:

Thank you all for the nice feedback and the warm welcome. It is indeed true that over here, 'the old continent', we encounter some older antiques, but generaly speaking : if it's 18th century or earlier, you'll only find it at specialised antique stores.

Very cool finds
