The attached pictures represents this past Saturday's detecting efforts. I started off on an old property I had visited once before with a lot of success. I hit a grassy area between the driveway and the main road and managed to pull 3 silver dimes out of it. Spend another hour or two pulling out mostly new coins, the brass gas valvue and cane tip and decided to head across the street to visit what I call my "colonial field" I've found a King William British half penny in this field, along with many dandy buttons and other 1700's items. I found another large flat button in the field, but what I hope I found is my first ever piece to a flint lock weapon. I believe the round copper item is the buttcap to the handle of a flint lock pistol. Can anyone determine or confirm for me that is what it is? Thanks for looking.

Really cool variety, "modern" silver and colonial gun parts! Yes sir that's great!

Man you had a good day...

That's a really nice array of finds. Thanks for sharing and congrats on the success.

You sure had a great hunt with variety and quality. Why is that buff so shiny? Looks like someone dropped it last month lol.

Very nice finds, great hunt!

That was from me, just used a dremel and steel brush wheel, gets all the crud off. I thought it wasn't too tarnished that the nickel underneath would not be pitted. Unfortunately it was more corroded that I thought. Nickels are a real pain and I have yet to find one come out of the ground that wasn't toasted. Normally I just soak them in a hot vinegar and salt solution, it cleans it to a nice dull gray color and doesn't remove the detail that is left. The dull gray if removed, will bring out the shiny nickel, but also the pittedness of the coin.

That's a great relic to dig!

A very successful hunt in my book....

Love that butt cap. I dug a similar one years ago at my colonial creek front site. Great find! Here's mine .....
