Flintlock action from 1800's campsite

RickyP and myself hunted an old campsite that Ricky had discovered long ago this weekend. We go there as often as we can and he said we have found over 50 buttons there so far and none of them are civil war. There have been 3 or 4 outstanding buttons found that date from 1790's to 1815 or so. Nothing newer than that so this weekend I got a signal on myMinelab ETrac with a 15 in WOT coil that said 12 inches. I started digging and Ricky came over with a big shovel and start pitching dirt. About a foot down we pulled this action out and still had a signal. Well at a measured 24 inches we came to what was left of an old metal bowl or plate that was so fragile and thin that we couldn't do much with it. Anyway, we ended up finding 6 more buttons over the weekend with one of Rickys a nice one. I'm looking for someone who knows flintlocks that might be able to identify what this action came off of. Thanks for looking!

Cool looking find.

Put in the electrolysis tank.

You need to put that in the electrolysis tank for a while and clear coat or oil it afterwards so it doesn't keep detereating.
And a nice find all I ever get is pieces.

Re: Flintlock action from 1800's campsite

That cleaned up better than I thought it would. Still needs a little more time in the tank. Nice find

Re: Flintlock action from 1800's campsite

that's a fantastic find. with a little imagination and a little searching, I think you've got a mid 1800's percussion cap flintlock action, like this one

Re: Flintlock action from 1800's campsite

Thanks for all the comments. I let it clean a few more hours with electrolysis and then a Dremel tool. This is as clean as I'm gonna get this as it is a little bit fragile. Anyway,Still trying to figure out what gun or pistol it was originally.

Re: Flintlock action from 1800's campsite

Thanks for all the congrats from everyone! Its finally sunk in. I found something thats kinda hard to find....not a gold piece ( heart attack ) but something I'll always remember and wonder about who owned that gun and why was it where it was. Thats what this is all about sometime, the mystery of it all!!!
