Flip or not to flip?

Picked this up on Sunday. Asking price was $10 and paid $5. It's a Badge-A-Matic I semi-automatic badge maker with very little wear. I bought it thinking it would be a quick flip. They sell on Ebay between $150-200. When I showed it to my son he became totally excited and said he always wanted one and don't sell it. He wants to make badges of his favorite indie rock bands.

He also argued that I could make specialty buttons and sell them on EBay. I really don't know what to do. Any ideas?

I say it's a keeper! You and your son can use it and have some fun with it. Maybe even make some $ off of the buttons you make. Later on down the road you can always flip it if everyone has gotten the use out of it.

I never sell something that the family wants to have and use. If it is in use to make money, all the better.

If his argument is that specialty buttons will sell on eBay turn it into a learning experience. He designs, produces, lists, & sells buttons on a certain schedule. If it works out let him have the machine. If it sits around after he loses interest sell it.

Thanks everyone for your input. It's going to be a keeper. You have all of made good sense. I guess that I had initially decided to sell it and was surprised by my sons interest in it.
