might be hard to answer this with out seeing but I live on the Chesapeake bay.I do a lot of beach and water hunting here at local beaches.Last week we had rain and high east winds witch blow tons of water up the bay.Water levels were 5 to 6 feet above high tide mark.I went out today to see what it did to the sand on the beaches and they had a foot to 2 feet of sand deposited high on the beach.Witch to me Im thinking covered everything up.Does this mean the sand was stripped from the bottom in the water witch should make detecting in the water better???

Sand could have been moved from miles away, not necessarily right offshore.
