This thing is so shiny it raised flags. My wife got it in her change, weighed it out at 6.3 grams. 90% silver. First day in weeks I don't get out to hunt and the first silver I see in weeks...go figure. FloridaSProof11.webpFloridaSProof12.webp

how do identify a proof quarter
Besides the obvious polished look to the background & the frosted bust of Washington it's an S mint. For the past several years the San Francisco mint has only produced proof coins

Could be from someones proof set that was busted up and spent from pops coin collection?

Also the weight difference, the proofs weigh in at 6.3 grams, the regular clad at 5.6 grams.

Super find there ! Probably the result of a drug thug break and enter grab .

4 SCORE A SILVER QUARTER , SWEET .

Never thought to look for proof quarters

They are usually sold in sets, unless a private owner breaks up the set. Each year has one of each coin, you can get them in 90% silver or clad. You will probably never find one if "looking" for them, but you can't miss it if you do see one.

Tell your wife nice find. I know how you feel. We were in a Florida airport a few years back, & my wife looks on the chair next to her & there sat an Indian Head Penny. She handed it to me & said " I don't even need a metal detector ".

Wife does that all the time
