Here we go again. Time to sling some dirt and get a little filthy. This is kinda a follow up to the last post. I wanted to show you how the grass turned out after the last pit. We got some rain that helped the grass fill in nicely.
So we had probed this next one and got around to do it today. Don has the work of removing the sod for replacement.l I think he was a landscaper in a previous life. 
So down we go into the depths. Whammo! A ton of bricks. These big ole pavers are hefty boys. Good thing they usually use them just for a bit of fill when the dirt starts to sink over the years. Glad they were not at the bottom blasting everything. So down we go and as predicted it appeared to be a ladies style pit. A lot of smaller broken perfumes and such. Got down to about the 6 foot level and the walls started to cave a bit. You can see we are in the middle of the yard with no tree roots. this particular area has what we call sugar sand and it falls right in at the 5 to 6 foot level. Which means Game Set Match 
And the digging is done. So we didn't find really anything. So in to the next pit.
So I was lucky to quickly locate what I thought was a small trash pit. Well it turned out to be a bit more. It was actually a privy once but I think they filled it with smashed glass.
Either way we were gonna get it done. 
So we started to see a bit older glass and found a Frank Miller Dressing bottle and a sample size Dr. Kilmer's. Don found a couple of nice bennington type marbles and then out pops a cool little salt shaker. Not broken! 
So now it was my turn at it. This pit had a few spider roots to hold the walls up a bit better, but it was still a bit shaky. I was digging in the side wall and I saw a glimmer of cobalt! Yahoo!!! So I took a pic of it Insitu as requested by some of you Tnetters! It's a cool pic I think. Then I pulled it out in hopes that it was whole. My chances I gave about 10% it was whiole considering everything else was blown away by rocks. But not this one. Out pops the rare Dr. Eliels Liver Regulator. Sweeeeeet 
It made our day really. Found another ceramic girl thing that I think is a tooth pick holder. It was whole too with no cracks. Finished the pit with a major cryer though. The FA Senrick amber blob beer. Super crude and old. Maybe 1880 or so. Oh well, it was a fun day. What the heck, every day you can treasure hunt is a great day. Don't ya think? It's always better than work. And we got our exercise in for the day too. Hope you can get out and find some treasure soon. Enjoy! jgas
