Hello all Treasure Freaks :tongue3: ,

Here we go again. Time to sling some dirt and get a little filthy. This is kinda a follow up to the last post. I wanted to show you how the grass turned out after the last pit. We got some rain that helped the grass fill in nicely. :laughing7: So we had probed this next one and got around to do it today. Don has the work of removing the sod for replacement.l I think he was a landscaper in a previous life. So down we go into the depths. Whammo! A ton of bricks. These big ole pavers are hefty boys. Good thing they usually use them just for a bit of fill when the dirt starts to sink over the years. Glad they were not at the bottom blasting everything. So down we go and as predicted it appeared to be a ladies style pit. A lot of smaller broken perfumes and such. Got down to about the 6 foot level and the walls started to cave a bit. You can see we are in the middle of the yard with no tree roots. this particular area has what we call sugar sand and it falls right in at the 5 to 6 foot level. Which means Game Set Match :BangHead: And the digging is done. So we didn't find really anything. So in to the next pit.

So I was lucky to quickly locate what I thought was a small trash pit. Well it turned out to be a bit more. It was actually a privy once but I think they filled it with smashed glass. Either way we were gonna get it done. :headbang: So we started to see a bit older glass and found a Frank Miller Dressing bottle and a sample size Dr. Kilmer's. Don found a couple of nice bennington type marbles and then out pops a cool little salt shaker. Not broken! :hello2: So now it was my turn at it. This pit had a few spider roots to hold the walls up a bit better, but it was still a bit shaky. I was digging in the side wall and I saw a glimmer of cobalt! Yahoo!!! So I took a pic of it Insitu as requested by some of you Tnetters! It's a cool pic I think. Then I pulled it out in hopes that it was whole. My chances I gave about 10% it was whiole considering everything else was blown away by rocks. But not this one. Out pops the rare Dr. Eliels Liver Regulator. Sweeeeeet :icon_thumleft: It made our day really. Found another ceramic girl thing that I think is a tooth pick holder. It was whole too with no cracks. :headbang: Finished the pit with a major cryer though. The FA Senrick amber blob beer. Super crude and old. Maybe 1880 or so. Oh well, it was a fun day. What the heck, every day you can treasure hunt is a great day. Don't ya think? It's always better than work. And we got our exercise in for the day too. :laughing7: Hope you can get out and find some treasure soon. Enjoy! jgas

What a great post Jgas! Big thanks on all the photos, you can never post too many. I could see the covered pit in the foreground, great work. Sorry the one caved in on you guys, was hoping there was goodies there but what the heck, can't win them all. That shot of the Liver Regulator still half buried is the money shot of the year so far! What a killer bottle! I know you had a great rush on that one. The salt shaker and the girly thing are really cool. Nice detail on that piece. Great story ,great dig and congratulations on the cobalt. Sorry about the cryer, I know that's got to be a heartbreaker. Keep slinging dirt.-Bass

Looks like a blast. Thanks for sharing.

Too bad about the beer, but that Liver Regulator is niiiiiiice

Jgas, do you keep those door knobs? I've heard the country folk would put them in the chicken coup in hopes the ole chicken snake would swallow one. If he did, it would kill him.

Really nice bottle! I don't see any walls on that privy. Is it just lost in the photography? Your post is helpful to me and your landscaping is well done!

Great post JGas. Looks like a step by step demonstration of how to dig an outhouse pit.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Hey Bass indeed I do save all the door knobs. Not sure about the chicken deal. LOL Not really sure how to re purpose them yet either. I thought you would like the insitu pic. Thanks again for the replies. jgas

Great story and congrats on the finds! Are any of the bricks worth selling to a collector?

Hey Freepistol, yeah I suppose there is a purpose for the bricks. Although we have tons of them here and dig them all the time. Pretty common in these parts. jgas

moocho goosto ..

can't get enough dig pix, thanks.

Nice bottles you found in the privy.ps here your better half that goes with the shaker!

Very Cool Post .

After seeing all this 'Glass'+ etc,.

Think I'd like to try to Find & dig a Pit some day.

p.s. If I had Grass like that , I would let you dig it anytime as you make it look like an "Art".

great digs, congrats!
