I found this on property that was owned by a colonel during the civil war. There have been some minnie balls found on the property. Can anyone tell me if this is for a rifle sling or something else. The property also goes back to the late 1700's, so it could be earlier. Any help is appreciated. It is made of iron and is about 1 1/2 inches wide. Thanks...Lance

Thanks Omni, but I don't think its for overalls. Most of those would be brass, iron would rust. Also it is made too thick and heavy for overalls. I am just stumped on this one...Lance

When I was a little kid about 45 years ago I had a coat that buckled in the front. The buckle was 2 piece. One half looked just like that and the other half had a T shape piece that you put through the small slot in the first piece. Then it turned 90 degrees to fit together and, well geez I don't know how to draw you a picture on this here computer.I can barely manage to post a message at all! But any way that kind of buckle might go back 100 years or more.
