For you roll weighers....... UPDATED 04/23

I decided to run a small experiment......weigh each roll (in order from top left to bottom right, straight from the box). I numbered each roll......and put the weight on each one also. Roll #'s are on the bottom. Weights are in grams, i.e 5.3 = 225.3. Lets see which rolls hold silver and which ones don't!! Weights range from 224.4 to 225.9......with 225.2 being the average. Results around 10:00 EST....

i'm just guessing, but i think this is a skunk. If one of the rolls had silver i think it would be at least 2grams above the average. I could be completely wrong though, so please let us know the results.

Results time!!
Roll #50, which weighed 224.4 grams contained a 1981-s clad proof
Roll #14, which weighed 225.2 grams contained a 1971-s clad proof
Roll #18, which weighed 225.2 grams contained a 1968-d
Roll #27, which weighed 225.4 grams contained a 1970-s silver proof....MY FIRST!!
Roll #10, which weighed 225.6 grams contained a 1968-d
Roll # 7, which weighed 225.6 grams contained a 1968-d
Roll #47, which weighed 225.6 grams contained a 1969-d
Roll # 5, which weighed 225.8 grams contained a 1972-s clad proof
The 2 heaviest rolls, weighing 225.8 and 225.9 grams contained NO SILVER.
So.......50% of the rolls that weighed 225.6 grams contained a 40%'er
No rolls under 225.2 grams contained silver.

Hmmmmm.

So all this really proves that is weighing your rolls is a waste of time?

No significant statistical finding showing heavier rolls contain silver it seems. Why not just rip the rolls open and be surprised if there is silver.

I guess if it did work it would be great for people who want to return their unrolled dumps back instead of re rolling or having to dump them into a machine. Sorry I don't really get the point of all this.

Jim2silver-you are correct!! I always open every roll, and i USED to weigh them before opening, but no longer. The thrill of not knowing in advance......kinda like a sonogram when you're expecting a child.....ruins the experience. Just did it for sh!t$ and giggles.....

Cool experiment but it is mostly a crap shoot!!! :laughing7: Great score on the '70S - got my first one last week from a teller tray - man was that awesome!!! :thumbsup:

weighing your rolls is still useful if you get brinks boxes with the clear plastic wrappers and only edge check it will tell you if it is short or not. I only do this with dimes though.

Weighing my rolls would be way too much of a hassle. I just bite mine open like the Silver crazed animal I am when I have unsearched rolls.
