The few confederate knapsack hooks I have and the link you provided are made by Issac campbell & co. (major supplier of the south) and are slightly different, but - i think u are right probably a knapsack hook but made by a different supplier to the confederacy or something in that nature - i guess. tnx

Definitely a CS knapsack hook. I've dug a few in areas around Richmond that are definitely CS sites.
