Hi fellow TH'ers! My name is Doug Young, formerly known as "Daytona Doug" from 1976 to 1982. I was Field Operations Manager for Wilson-Neuman Daytona Metal Detectors of Delphos, Ohio. For a short time in the early 80's, I joined as field rep for Garrett Metal Detectors, with the blessing of Chuck Neuman. Shortly after, I returned back to Daytona. Reaganomics set in and Chuck shut the company down due to lack of sales, as people tightened their belts and wallets. Contrary to popular belief, there was NO copying. Paul Wilson, our engineer, did all his own designing and invention. Anyone that was at Garretts ITHS hunt in Grand Prarie, Texas, June 1980, may remember the Staff Coin hunt. Each hunter had a 3 foot by 25 foot strip (approx) with a silver dollar buried one foot deep. The first to find, recover and yell "TARGET!" was the winner. You could have heard a pin drop when I was the winner! Charles Garrett and Chuck Neuman were standing together (they were friends) and Mr. Garrett said he was glad it was me that won. We had proven that even our Basic Daytona could go as deep as all others! If you have any questions about any Daytona model, please feel free to email me at dougnancy1@gmail.com. I will also try to keep an eye out for messages on this site. Thanks and Happy Hunting!
