Fort Ross - Russian River

Howdy..
I am planning a trip to the USA... for 2021...
My wife visits California regularly and it's time we , as a family, had a trip over.
So, my plan is to fly into San Francisco, spend a few days, then drive up to Fort Ross and Russian River area... Anyone have a good idea about these areas ?? good spots to stay along the river ?? towns ? eating ? anything really ... Then finish off in Seattle and fly home from there.
I've never been to the US, not planning on metal detecting.. just leisure...
