Fort Walton Beach area

I'm going to Fort Walton Beach in July. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to hunt?

The pier is probably a good bet. When I was there 4 years ago it was packed but I've never detected there. There are a lot of busy dry sand areas around the pier (even a playground) and there were a lot of surfers and swimmers in the water. The pier is on Okaloosa island just east of the bridge. I remember there being plenty of public access to the beaches between the condos on the island as well.
