Found 1800's Axe Head???? Someone Please Identify.

I went out today to an old Forest Preserve that dates back to the late 1800's.
I was looking on Google Earth to check things out from above to see if there was anything out of the ordinary. I did see a black spot on the map that I searched and I think it may have been a burn spot upon further investigation.

While in the general location I kept my coil to the ground while walking, then I saw an old Glass someone had put on a tree branch. As I was walking I became very startled because my detector was so quite I forgot it was on. When I heard the beep I nearly jumped out of my skin. I found what I think may be an old axe head. It has one jagged sharp edge and is about 5" wide from the blade to the back.

I also found a 1963 Abe Cent.

Can anyone identify this object?

Sorry bout the pictures I had a hard time with my camera focussing so I had to do a hand shot.

Also saw 4-Deer, can you spot them in the picture?

Just a guess, but it looks like an old log splitter.

As for the pictures...try the "macro" mode. It is usually an icon with a tulip on it. It will allow you to get as close as 6 inches or less depending on the camera.

I was using the Macro Mode on some shots, it's just that the lighting was bad and it could not focus very well.
Thanks Neil.

Looks like an old blacksmith made axe that has been used as a wedge. I find 'em all the time. I guess if you had left your wedges at home or in the wagon they would use their extra axes as wedges or would use the axe heads that neaded a handle for a wedge and when they do the eye gets crushed in the process...d2
