100 year old silver!

Start with 10 minute baths in pure lemon juice, rinsing well after every soak until clean.

Thank you all. My next question was about proper cleaning. Is there a thread dedicated to cleaning coins??

Real nice coin, I've been detecting in Germany for 25 years and have not found one of those, I did find a gold coin from the same King, Wilhelm II. Some say King Wilhelm II was the biggest instigator of WWI, he was banished from Germany after the war. My book says 6.34 million were made, .900 silver, 16.67 grams. I wouldn't clean it, just rinse it off with water and a soft brush. Congrats and HH, Mike

Thanks a lot for that info. As of now I have only done just that, rinse and finger scrub. I don't plan on selling it so the cleaning information I got here will deff. be helpful in the future. Most of the area in PA I have been hunting in is Polish but I seem to always find things related to Germany. I found a Brass fork and a silver ring marked '800' in the same area. The leaf and acorn on the ring seem to be a common theme on German jewelry. Maybe you can help me with that as well. I posted the ring and fork in the 'What is it?' thread today if you want to go take a look. There was a lot of excavating done in the area but trees have grown from the piles so its been untouched for about 30 years. Possibly dug up from another area and dumped there. Who knows but that's the best part!
thanks again

Congrats on that fisrt silver!
