Found 1915 D/D Buffalo nickel

Had som buffalo nickels show up in the mail today. Did have great pictures of them when I bought them so I was interested in seeing what I actually had. Paid under a buck apiece for them which is higher than I like for Buffalo's but there was a 1915-D, 1916-S, 1926-D & 1926-S along with several common dates with full horn. Overall felt really good about the deal. The '26-D & '26-S and worth more than I paid for the whole lot. It was snowing (happy March to everyone!) so I was checking them for varieties and found that the 1915-D is an FS-501/CONECA-001.

I can't find a lot on the coin online. If anyone can provide additional information or point me towards a place to look I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Congrats, Twitch. It always amazes me when people don't take the time to look at what they are selling. I don't mean - to scrutinize every little detail, but to miss the obvious. You should save that seller, and see what else they are selling.

Your thread title is incorrect. This nick is a RPM (RePunched Mintmark), not a Doubled Die.

It is also best to use the complete FS and CONECA numbers

FS-05-1915D-501 (015)
FS number includes denomination, date, mint, variety type.

CONECA: RPM-001
Always note denomination, date, and mint when referring to CONECA number.

Explainations of both are found in the Cherrypickers guide pictured in your second image.

Again, good coin. And yes, average a bit under one dollar each for buffs is a bit steep. I would not have bit on that offer.

Thanks for the help all. Based on the auction results it looks like it’s a $100+ coin in this condition. Not too bad. I paid $25 for 29 Buffalo’s including 4-digit date 1926-S, 1926-D & 1916-S and many full horn later dates. Overall really pleased.

Can anyone offer thoughts on grade? I’m terrible at grading Buffalo’s. Best guess is between G4 & F12. Reverse looks nicer than obverse, though a weak date strike makes it difficult for me to grade. Thanks.

It is hard to grade as you didn't provide a photo of the entire reverse. Need to see the horn.

Factoring in the Obverse and Reverse, I would venture to say that it would Net Grade at VG-10 but I also have trouble with Buffalo Nickels. They are in a universe of their own when it comes to try an grade them!

Thanks for the input. I struggle with types prone to weak strikes, such as Buffalo’s, Franklins....

Sorry for missing the second photo. Blowing it up in magnification, the horn is obliterated with the tail barely discernible across the hip. Your date is readable, but it is faint. I would think the best it would grade is Good. Still a nice find.
