Tough day today! I found a small area in a field that was full of targets. Unfortunately, those targets were 28 shell casings and 7 clad coins (quarter, 3 nickels and 3 memorials). Most of the shell casings were Western .45 Auto, which are from the 1930's, but the coins were all from the 1960's and 70's.

But today wasn't a total loss. I did find a newly hatched snapping turtle at the edge of the field getting ready to cross the street! I grabbed him in time, but 3 of his brothers had already been run over. I checked the whole area, but those 4 were all I could find. Hopefully, the rest made it to the nearby pond, where I released the lone survivor.

Here's a few pics of today's finds:

nice finds, I caught a bass one time and when I was fileting it, found three baby turtles still alive in its stomach, we turned them loose a little bit later in a creek.

So glad you were able to take that tiny turtle to the pond! :hello2:My childhood woods & creek gave us many good turtle experiences.

Good luck for some super finds next time out! :icon_thumright: Andi

Nice digs, Nice save.

Thanks for the replies, guys! I went back there today, but I didn't find any more turtles. I did end up finding my oldest coin ever, though! I'll save that for a new thread!

Good Karma for the baby. Bullet casing are cool too

Congrats on the cool finds from a fellow turtle saver.

The last one I saved was a snapper but a bit bigger and meaner than yours.
I used my army shovel to carry him to a pond and he was snapping at the handle the whole way.
They're aggressive little critters.

Good job on saving the turtle. GL&HH.

WOW WHAT A COINCEDENCE I FOUND 28 .45 CAL BULLETS IN THE WOODS YESTERDAY WITH MY WIFE. THOSE BAD BOYS SURE HAVE SOME RANGE TO GET ALL THE WAY TO FLORIDA LMAO. GRTEAT FINDS THANKS

Yes, they don't stay cute for long! But I'd still risk my neck to save any of them walking in the road. A shovel is the way to go. The big boys are nasty and will bite or scratch you even as you're trying to save them! Just instinct for them to fight, I guess.

So that's where they ended up!LOL! I have no idea where the bullets ended up. Haven't found even one yet.
