I went out to a new spot today at for a short hunt, didn't find much but what I did find was a 72 cal 3 ringer! Wow that is one seriously huge bullet!
I also found a base from a shell, maybe a Hotchkiss shell not sure, and another frag.

How common are these 72 cal minies?

I've got one identical to it from here in East Tennessee. Early war...August 1862 earthworks site that saw a battle. Mine is a drop. Yes, they are huge! Could you even imagine getting hit by one of those? Wonder what kind of musket fired these? Anyone know?
