Found a button. Need help with ID.

Found this today. I have looked online trying to find a match but no luck yet. It's smashed, so I don't know if that will make the ID harder. It's about the size of a nickel.

Looks like an 1860 Louisiana State Milita button to me. Nice find buddy!

Wow! I was not expecting that! I appreciate the help with ID.

I hate it's smashed, but I guess finding a smashed one is better than not finding it at all. At least it wasn't me that damaged it this time.

I found it at an new elementary school where there used to be an old home site.

I read that thread! His is in much better shape too. I did some research and some with the same front as mine have different backs, so I don't know what's really rare and what isn't. Appears to be several makers and varieties. I'm not sure if it's rare, but i'm happy to have it!
