Was checking a site that produced many IH pennies about 15 years ago. Much to my supprise, I was holding this and found the following about the company:
Unit Rig & Equipment Co. was founded in 1935 by a group of four Tulsa businessmen to manufacture oil drilling equipment. Not sure what purpose this piece of equipment was used for, but I'm sure happy to have one of these fobs. ;D

Thanks for looking... HH Bertman

Congrats on a nice FOB...

I found about eight in 2001 and NONE since, can't figure it out either???

That is too cool! It will be fun learning the history of it as well. Nice find!

Great fob! Listed in Hoover's Watch Fob Guide Book as an "F" on an A-G scale, with "G" being the rarest &/or most valuable. Even back at the time of the book's publication, 1983, it was a $75-100 fob.

Not sure what purpose this piece of equipment was used for . . .

Well geeze. It's a "Portable Rotary One Lever Speed Controller". Says so right on it.

It for when you need to take single lever rotary speed control with you someplace.

Nice fob!

I like it...cool design.

Burt

Glad to help anytime I can, Bertman. No guarantees... but you can't beat the price! ;)

Thats the first time I have ever seen a rig drawworks used in a promo item. Cool !!!

it was a small portible"rotary" type drilling unit maybe ---most old drilling type units were quite large and had multi handles and took several men to run--- so a small handy unit that needed less manpower would sell like hotcakes---the unit was a single lever---that would had to control both the cutting speed of the "bit"and the downward pressure put upon itwhile drilling--not a easy task--both were critical things in oil well drilling---working on oil tankers for a bit while running to alaska, I learned a little bit about oil drilling (some of the guys that were working as seaman on the tankers were old old feild types from alaska---overheard lots of talk and talked to them being I a chatty sort and just want to know stuff and will talk about just about anthing sometime to keep from being bored---gets boring at sea sometimes you know---also did way too much reading too to stop boredom. ---the oil biz a rough biz by the way.---- thats my WAG anyway---Ivan

Great FOB, Bert! Congrats!

Nana :)
